Niger govt move against desparities in local government salaries.

Governor Umar Mohamed Bago of Niger state have been applauded for initiating a spontaneous moves in ensuaring that 25 local government areas are back to its formidable position.
The permanent secretary local government service commission, Comrade Tanimu Yunusa stated this at the local government senior staff retreat held at the state college of education in MINNA last Friday.
He said the gesture by the governor no doubt is in line with the new Niger state agenda to put things at the right perspective to enhance the smooth administration of the local government system.
“We seek the approval from the state government to finally put to rest the disperities in the salary of Directors in the 25 local government areas of the state and was graciously approved by the governor.”
Comrade Tanimu said there will not be favouritsm at the end of the retreat all directors are expected to seat for exams after which they will be upgraded to substantive director on grade levels 17 as applicable to the civil servants in the state.
As it is “iam optimistic there will be formidable team in all the local government councis after the retreat, qualified and competent directors will be selected thus the importance of the retreat can not be over emphasised.”Tanimu disclosed.
speaking at the end of the retreat, the state Chairman Nigeria Labour congress, Comrade Idris Abdulkarim Lapkene, described the initiative by the commission as a round peg in a round hole to bring back the lost glory of local government system in the state.
Responding on behalf of the Directors, the director of finance Shiroro local government area,Haruna Musa Manta, said the initiative of organising the retreat is the best option to guide against the problem of brain drain in the local government areas which is long over due.
