His Excellency, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, on Friday commissioned the newly renovated Sarkin Gwandu Mosque.

Commissioning the Mosque at the emir’s palace, the governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting religious activities across the state.

The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Arch. Sani Aliyu said religion remained one of the key areas government “does not joke with.”

He urged people to continue to support the policies and programmes of the present government to enable it successfully deliver dividends of democracy to the people.

The governor appreciated the people of Kebbi for their support and cooperation and urged them to sustain the tempo for the good of all.

Gov. Idris advised the Mosque committee to do everything possible to ensure proper maintenance of the edifice for the benefit of Muslim Ummah.

In his speech, the Emir of Gwandu, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Iliyasu-Bashar (rtd.) expressed delight over what he described total and complete renovation of the Mosque.

The Monarch noted with satisfaction that the renovation, which started by the previous administration saw the light of the day during the present administration.

The Mosque, according to him, is not only renovated but equipped with modern facilities for the comfort of worshipers.

Iliyasu-Bashir urged the Mosque committee to ensure adequate maintenance to enable the facilities installed stand the test of time.

The emir used the occasion to call on marketers and wealthy individuals in the society to exhibit the fear of God Almighty, observing that: “We are now in harvest season but prices of farm produce still remained very high.”

Handing over the Mosque, the contractor of the project, Engr. Manniru Jega said: “Today I feel fulfilled because people are expressing joy over my work.”

He commended Gov. Nasir Idris for finding his company worthy to execute the project and appeal to other State Governors to emulate the gesture to empower and boost the moral of indigenous contractors.

Jega observed that: “When contracts are given to indigenous contractors, you empower your country and your people, because the contractor will engage the services of indigenous people, buy working materials locally, therefore, many local people stand to benefit.”

On challenges faced while executing the project, Jega identified low internal flouring compared to outside premises, thereby requiring a lot of filing up 600 to make it higher than the outer premises.
