Abubakar takes over as 49th Commander, Artillery Corps

Maj.-Gen. Zakari Abubakar, has taken over as the 49th Commander, Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery with a pledge to reposition it.

Abubakar took over from Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye on Friday at the headquarters of Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery, Minna.

Abubakar thanked the Chief of Army Staff , Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, for finding him worthy to lead the corps.

He promised to sustain the successes achieved by Kangye.

He also promised to ensure combat- ready soldiers and to discharge his responsibilities in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s philosophy.

He pledged to build a strong corps, to promote and provide superior fire power in support of Nigerian Army operations.

Abubakar appreciated Kangye for his professionalism during his tenure.

He emphasised his desire to maintain a strong connection with his predecessor for the overall development of the Nigerian Army.

“Gen. Kangye has been a pillar of strength and guidance throughout his tenure. I am honoured to continue building on the solid foundation he has established,” he said.

He outlined key priorities for his leadership, focusing on the maintenance of guns and equipment.

“Training and welfare of artillery officers/soldiers, both serving and retired, among others will be vigorously pursued,” he said.

The new commander assured the corps that strategic initiatives would be implemented to achieve that objective.

He also emphasised the critical importance of adapting the corps’ firepower capabilities to align with strategic its objectives.

“This will enhance operational readiness and effectiveness in various combat scenarios,” he said

Kangye, underscored the importance of unity for the growth of the corps and the need for officers to extend their support to the new commander.

He encouraged open line of communication while urging officers to share information, no matter how trivial.

“Every piece of intelligence can contribute to the larger mission.

“This call to action highlights the significance of every individual’s role within the corps, fostering a culture of mutual support and proactive engagement,” he said.

Kangye charged the officers to demonstrate courage and emphasised both physical bravery and moral integrity. (NAN)
