Niger state government has put in place punitive measures to combat crime in the nooks and crannies of MINNA and it’s environs through re -enforcement of liquor board.laws.
The Chairman of Niger state liquor board,Barrister Yahaya Halidu, stated this while responding to some issues regarding the sales and consumption of liquor in the state, stated that it is a task that must be carried out according to the law.
He said that the main objective of the board as empowered by the Governor Umar Bago is essentially for revenue drive aimed at increasing the revenue base of the state to achieve the New Niger agenda.
“Officials of the board including myself usually go out for operation to collect the license fees and as well enforce the law in prohibited areas as the law permits, adding that the law enforcing the sales of Alcohol is still in force”.
” Sometimes because of the importance attaches to the payment of license fees,even during weekends,i sneak out to monitor payment of license fees to verified every payment so as to notice any shoddy deals by any of my staff.”
“Iam not saying any of my staff is found wanting, they are all very committed and sincer to their job, that notwithstanding, I will deal decerssively with anyone found wanting,it is a responsibility of trust which i will not toy with as such everyone have to be resolute”.
On the operation of liquor board in the local government areas,Barr Yahaya said strategies have been mapped out by the board in all the 25 local government areas to punish violators of liquor licensing board.
“We are working day and night to reduce the crime rate through the consumption of Alcohol in hideout places popularly known as black market within the Minna Metropoli and local government headquarters.”
Barrister Halidu disclosed that it has come to the notice of the board that snatching of handsets and other criminal activities have been traced to the sales of Alcohol at hideout places that are not registered.
It was in view of this that my Men along with security agencies crack down such places to minimize the nefarious activities in the town, and call on the public to avail the board any information leading to such illegal operators.
