Etsu Nupe to journalists: Be alive to your responsibilities

Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman, Niger Council of Traditional Rulers, has called on media practitioners to be alive to their responsibilities.

Abubakar gave the task while receiving a delegation of media professionals accompanied the newly appointed General Manager, Radio Niger, Minna, Malam Mohammed Kolo Ewun, on a courtesy visit in Bida for his Royal blessings.

The Etsu Nupe maintained that the media needed to be at the forefront of educating the people about the social contract between the government and the people.

“Media always play significant role in educating the people on government policies and programmes.

“They also play significant role in ensuring good governance in the country.

“It is in view of this that I call on media professionals to be alive to their responsibilities,” he enjoined them.

He urged the new general manager to bring his innovative ideas to bear to justify the confidence reposed in him by Gov. Umaru Bago.

The Leader of the delegation, Alhaji Mohammed Baba-Busu, had earleir appealed to the Niger State Government to ensure the digital transformation of its booster stations to the FM Band for effective information dissemination.

He stated that the AM transmitters were outdated as such the people no longer listen to them.

Baba-Busu, who is the Zonal Manager, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Minna, explained that digitalisation of all the stations in the state owned radio stations to FM would boost information dissemination and the revenue base of the state.

He urged the government to support the new leadership to overcome its challenges and adopt better ways of broadcasting.

On his part, the new General Manager Niger Media Corporation, Malam Mohammed Kolo Ewun, expressed his commitment to revitalise the corporation’s sub-stations across the state.

He appreciated the governor for appointing him and pledged not to fail in his duties.

The general manager promised to intensify efforts towards transforming the organisation positively for effective service delivery.

Kolo-Ewun thanked the Etsu Nupe for his royal blessings and assured that he would not disappoint him, saying the state owned radio stations will be giving people timely, accurate and interesting programmes that will promote peaceful coexistence.
