Ex-FIRS chair urges business owners, citizens to pay taxes
By Mohammed Baba Busu
The former Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Services(FIRS), Mohammed Nami, has urged business owners and citizens to pay their taxes regularly in order to enable the government at all levels to provide essential services to them.
Nami made the appeal while speaking to newsmen in Minna.
According to him, the best hospitals, roads, bridges, airports, schools, portable drinking water, electricity as well as security of lives and properties do not happen by accident.
He added that governments provide these amenities through taxes.
Nami explained that business owners and citizens of countries all over the world make it happen by entrusting their government with the taxes they routinely pay.
The former FIRS boss, however, advocated the utilisation of taxes paid by the citizens by investing the money on basic physical and organisational structures for the greater benefits of humanity.
