Nigeria bar association Minna branch inaugurated anti corruption committee to fight corruption in the branch

In its determination to curb corruption in enhancing the rule of law in the country, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Minna Branch has put machinery in place to fight corruption in all ramifications.

Inline with the directive of the National Secretariat of the NBA under the leadership of the National President of the Association Barrister Adam Osigwe SAN the Minna branch of the association has inaugurated anti corruption committee to fight corruption in the branch.

To this end the Minna branch Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Barrister Isyaku Barau at the end of the branch monthly meeting held at the High court Foyer directed the committee to heat the ground running by check corrupt related issues among members and other critical stakeholders in the Judiciary.

This according to the Chairman,”will go along way in enhancing the rule of law and build confidence in our justice system in the country

The Chairman while chairing the branch monthly meeting noted that without concrete incremental efforts toward addressing corruption, meaningful human development and utmost freedom would remain elusive.

He said the NBA, leading by example, could provide some inspiration for the judiciary, legislature, and executives on the need for real commitments and political will in the fight against corruption.

This he explained necessitated the decision of the National Executive Council of the Association to constitute the National Anti-Corruption Committee, chaired by Prof. Babafemi A. Badejo, to achieve the broader objectives stated in the terms of reference of the committee.

He said the National President of the Association Mazi Afam Osigwe, Senior Advocate to this end directed all the 130 Branch Chairmen to take immediate steps to constitute their respective Branch-level Anti-Corruption Committees that will work in strategic alignment with the National committee.

Chairman of the committee in Minna branch Abdulkadir Waziri Esq said tackling corruption successfully is to enhance the rule of law, the NBA’s guiding motto.

He added that ” failure in mitigating and addressing the scourge of corruption will create a situation of disregard for the rule of law,”

He maintained that some of the mandates of the Committee include Investigating and addressing complaints of corruption and unethical conduct, Collaborating with anti-corruption agencies, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders.

accountability.

the anti corruption under his leadership will soon organise sensitisation campaigns, training programs, and workshops on anti-corruption laws and ethical best practices.

Equally, he disclosed that the committee will soon embarked on visiting some stakeholders in anti corruption agencies such as the Indepence corrupt related Commission (ICPC), and other related agencies in the state.

Providing legal support for whistleblowers and victims of corruption and
Undertaking any additional assignments as directed by the President or NEC.
