Shun fake news, verify information – FMC Bida MD urges public

The Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Bida, Dr Usman Abubakar, has called on members of the public to always verify information before sharing and shun fake news capable of creating unnecessary tension.
Abubakar made the appeal at a stakeholders’ meeting on the hospital’s services in Bida, Niger State.
He stressed that the management of the facility operates an open-door policy, adding that the public can reach out to the hospital authorities at any time for clarification.
“Our doors are open 24/7. We urge people to always say the correct thing about FMC Bida and avoid spreading unfounded stories,” he advised.
The medical director reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to providing quality and accessible healthcare services to Nigerians and other citizens.
In his remarks, Alhaji Yahaya Aliyu, the Maiyaki Nupe, commended the medical director and his management team for their strides in repositioning the centre for quality healthcare delivery.
Maiyaki, who is also the Vice Chairman, Guild of Friends of the FMC Bida, scored Usman and his management team 95 per cent in performance.
He lauded their commitment to service and the positive transformation being recorded at the centre.
However, he advised the management to remain focused, avoid distractions, and conduct their duties diligently and with the fear of God.
“Don’t be carried away by side talks; may misfortune never happen to you. But if it does, don’t be discouraged,” he advised.
The vice chairman noted that the hospital was charging only N700 per bed space, unlike some FMCs across the country where patients pay as much as N5,000.
“If, for instance, you increase the bed space fee to N1,000, there will be an uproar in Bida, whereas people easily spend N5,000 on recharge cards to listen to or watch things of little value,” he said.
Maiyaki Nupe stressed that people must learn to prioritise their health and spend part of their wealth on medical care, adding that “health should always come first”.
Besides, he appealed to residents and stakeholders to cooperate with the hospital management to ensure sustainable quality healthcare services at the centre.
