Police Arrest 2 Suspects, Recover 3 Stolen Vehicles in Kano

By Baba Mohammed

The Kano State Police Command says it has arrested two suspected motor vehicle thieves and recovered three stolen vehicles in separate operations across the country.

Spokesman of the Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Kano on Tuesday.

He said the feat followed meticulous investigation and coordinated intelligence operations by the Command to combat motor vehicle theft in the state.

According to him, one of the recovered vehicles was a Hyundai Elantra, 2011 model, ash colour, belonging to a female resident of Badawa Quarters. The vehicle, he said, was stolen on Aug. 18 at the premises of North Field Montessori Academy, Nasarawa GRA, Kano, but was traced and recovered in Zaria, Kaduna State, on Aug. 23.

Kiyawa added that police also recovered a Pontiac Vibe, 2006 model, ash colour, with registration number ABJ 739 JK, reported stolen by one Mr. Moses of Sabon Gari Quarters, Kano, on Aug. 5. The vehicle was recovered in Adamawa State following credible intelligence.

“In another development, a Siena Bus, sky blue in colour with registration number GAK 556, stolen from Bauchi State, was intercepted by police patrol teams attached to Wudil Division.

“Two suspects, Yunusa Muhammad a.k.a Yellow, 35, and Abdulwahab Bala, 23, both of Bauchi State, were arrested in connection with the theft,” he said.

The spokesman said the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigation, while the vehicles would be returned to their rightful owners.

He quoted the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, as commending the diligence and professionalism of the operatives, and urging residents to continue to support the police by reporting suspicious activities.

Kiyawa also listed the Command’s emergency lines as: 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926.
