Police commits to bolstering security in Niger–CP Elleman

By Mohammed Baba Busu

The Police Command in Niger has assured the residents of the state of its readiness to continue protecting the identities of individuals and groups who volunteer credible intelligence to aid its operations.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Adamu Abdullahi-Elleman, gave the assurance while interacting with newsmen in Minna on Monday.

Elleman said the police in the state, and indeed across the country, were operating professionally and would continue to maintain the principle of secrecy regarding sources of information in order to achieve maximum results.

He said he recently attended a workshop organised by the Force Headquarters on Informants and Information Management to further enhance his professional capacity in intelligence handling.

According to him, the recent reduction in criminal activities in Minna, the state capital, was largely due to credible information received from members of the public, as well as support from the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, the Niger Government under Gov. Umar Bago, traditional rulers, and security patrols personally led by him.

“As a result of these deliberate efforts, many miscreants who were previously involved in thuggery, street fights and handset snatching had been arrested, prosecuted and jailed to serve as a deterrent to others,” he said.

Elleman said he had also warned District and Village Heads against aiding or shielding miscreants, stressing that any traditional leader found culpable would be prosecuted alongside criminal elements.

The commissioner commended the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Halima Ibrahim, for her support in the speedy dispensation of justice, and extolled the.extant robust synergy between the police and other sister security agencies.

He further reaffirmed his commitment to prioritising the welfare of the officers and men of the command to boost their morale and enhance effective service delivery.
