Gov Idris harps on collective efforts to rescue dwindling standard of education

 

The Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has stressed the need for all to put hands on deck to rescue the dwindling standards of education in the state.

He made the plea at the graduation ceremony of Command Science Secondary School, Girls, Goru on Saturday.

Gov. Idris, who announced a donation of N50 million to the school, explained that the gesture was necessitated to assist the institution tackle its immediate problems to pave way for effective learning under conducive environment for students and teachers.

The governor informed the school authorities that his administration would offer a helping hand in the refurbishment of some of the structures after assessing the infrastructure in the school.

He emphasised the need for people to extend helping hands, as education matters were collective responsibility and not for government alone.

“Education is a responsibility of all, therefore, government alone cannot handle it, hence the need for parents, private organisations, corporate bodies and all other stakeholders to join hands with government to rescue it collapse,” he advised.

Idris noticed the small number of students studying in the school and promised to join hands with the 21 Sole Administrators of the state to sponsor about 60 students to enroll into the school to increase its intake.

The governor reiterated the commitment of his administration to improve the education sector of Kebbi.

“My administration is giving free education, we have paid for NECO and WAEC, paid N2 billion for students studying in tertiary institutions, paid N723 million for our foreign students in India, Egypt and Cyprus to offset their school fees.

“My administration has invested over 10 billion naira in the education sector within one year’, he averred.

The Commandant of the School, Major B. Fatai expressed gratitude for the physical presence of the governor at the graduation ceremony, hoping that the governor among other requests of the school, would help to mobilise for more admission from the 21 LGAs to increase the population of students.

Major Fatai had earlier appealed to the governor to intervene in the structural repairs of the school to make learning more conducive to students

She called on Commissioners and other government officials to continue to motivate and encourage educational pursuits of students.

“To the Hon Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, other government officials and distinguished guests here present, we are honoured by your presence.

“Your commitment to education, youth development is a testament to your tireless effort to shape a brighter future for our society ‘, she averred.

To the graduating students, Fatai congratulated them and admonished them to be good ambassadors of the school anywhere they found themselves, saying, “You represent the future leaders, innovators and change makers of our world.”

She applauded the graduands for their dedication, hard work, perseverance and commitment to excellence as well as willingness to take risk.
