NERC hands over Regulatory Electricity Market oversight to Niger State

By Mohammed Baba Busu

Niger State Government says the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has officially transferred regulatory oversight of the electricity market in the state to the Niger State Electricity Regulatory Commission (NSERC).

The Governor’s Special Adviser on Digital Media and Strategy, Abdullberqy Usman-Ebbo, on his social media handle X stated that
the significant development marked a new chapter in the state’s approach to managing its energy resources.

He added that Gov. Mohammed Bago further emphasised that the transition in electricity management was a major victory for the people of Niger which empowered the state to take charge of its own electricity system.

According to him, following the recent decisions, this would come closer to the affected communities while NSERC will now be responsible for overseeing the electricity market and reposition the state to pursue greater energy independence and stability.

Ebbo disclosed that the change would enable the state to implement policies and initiatives tailored to agricultural production and food security.

He said job creation would ultimately lead to improved livelihoods for the people.

He assured of government commitment to working diligently to enhance the reliability and efficiency of electricity supply as well as foster the economic growth and development of Niger and Nigeria.
