Tanker explosion,141 persons affected,86 death,55 injured.-DG Nsema.

A total of 141 persons were affected out of which 86 have been confirmed dead, 55 injured ,at the last Saturday’s Tanker explosion that occured at Diko Junction,  Suleja along Abuja – Kaduna road in Niger state.

According to the statement from the Niger state emergency management agency (NSEMA)signed by the Director General,Alh Abdullahi Baba Arah, said all the burnt dead bodies were recovered, with 80 of them buried in mass grave at the premises of the Primary health care Diko.

” Five bodies were taken away for burial in the town by relatives in addition with one that died at the Diko PHC.”

The statement added that mass burial was carried out by NSEMA in collaboration with Gurara LGA and other volunteers between the hours of 5pm to 12am of last Saturday.

“The number of injured now stands at 55 with one dead in Dikko PHC,”the statement added.

Our Correspondent reports that,the incident occured at about 9 am of that Saturday when a Tanker loaded with PMS was involved in an accident.

It was gathered that as a result of the incident attempt was made to transfer the contents to another Tanker and the spilling PMS in the process have contact with the generator used to power the transfer triggered the explosion and killed hundreds of people scooping fuel at the scene, while properties worth Millions of Naira were destroyed.
