Niger, Gov Bago Warns Bida and its Environs to be Weary of Land Grabbers

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has warned Bida and its environs to be weary of land grabbers, just as he officially unveiled the New Bida 20 years development plan for the modernization of Bida town.

 

He enjoined the people to show understanding and support the project, stressing that the State Government is not collecting anybody’s land but that owners of any property that will be affected by the project will be duly compensated.

 

The Governor stated this last Saturday at a town hall meeting with stakeholders in Bida, organized by the Ministry of Lands and Survey in collaboration with the New Niger Development Project, held in Bida.

 

He said, the 20-year New Bida development plan is a short time plan that would engender rapid development and boost socio-economic activities in the town.

 

Speaking on the ring road of 44 km dual carriageway aimed at diverting traffic, the governor said a new city will spring up in the area along with social amenities as well as a 100 megawatt solar farm will be provided for the people in the area, and cautioned community members to be weary of land grabbers.

 

In his address at the occasion, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman Niger State Council of traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, called on the people to cooperate with the State Government in its effort to develop Bida town, which he said would secure a good future for many generations.

 

Also, the Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Barrister Maurice Magaji, explained that the event is a defining moment and a shared commitment to transform Bida into an economically vibrant city, adding that the plan provides a framework for sustainable growth, and environmental resilience, among others.

 

Several stakeholders at the event were full of commendation to the Governor Bago for his developmental strides and called for support from the people to enable him fully achieve his vision.

 

 

The event also featured enumeration and valuation of compensation to the affected communities by Alh. Adamu Mohammed, while Arc. Ramatu Teni Suleiman spoke on optimization of land use and infrastructural development, an overview of the New Bida was also elaborated by Prof. Mohammed Bala Banki.
