Abolish 1999 constitution on the roles of  traditional institutions-Etsu Nupe

The ETSU Nupe,Alh Yahaya Abubakar have advocated for the abolition of 1999 constitution on the roles of traditional institutions and revert to 1920 and 1960’s constitution to safe guard the traditions, cultures and values of respective institutions.

ETSU Nupe also call for the inclusion of the Chairmen of state council of Chiefs to be recognised as members at the state Council meetings as is being practice in all Nigeria constitution except that of 1999.

The traditional ruler stated this in MINNA,Niger State Capital while submitting a memorandum on behalf of the National council of traditional institutions on the roles of traditional institutions in the country last Saturday.

According to ETSU Nupe,the1999 constitution has broken the link between the government and the govern, pointed out that the traditional institutions were very influential in the discharge of their native authority administration up to 1979.

ETSU Nupe further disclosed that the 1999 constitution has  broken the link between the government and the govern and plunge Nigeria into various Challenges particularly in the areas of security, and mobilisation of people which as a result affected governments programmes.

Alh Yahaya Abubakar was of the opinion that, the constitution should provide for state laws to enable them enact their own laws relating to traditional rulers in their respective states.

Also the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Niger State chapter, the Chairman, Abdulkareem Lafene,who is also the Wakiliin Kwadagon Nupe drew the attention of the 10th assembly on the implementation of the electoral reform committee headed by the late Justice Uwais.

There was also presentation by the youth and women leaders advocating for equal rights to move the country forward.

Our correspondent reports that over ten states were proposed by various groups agitating for New states to be created out of Niger,,Kwara and Kogi states, prominent among them is Edu,Kaijin and new,Kogi states presented their memorandum to the National assembly committee.
