NIGER SSG CELEBRATES GEN. IBB AT 84…A TRAILBLAZER, STATESMAN
The Government and good people of Niger State join millions of Nigerians and friends across the globe in celebrating an illustrious son of the State and former Military President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, GCFR, on the occasion of his 84th birthday anniversary.
In a congratulatory message, the Secretary to the Government of Niger State (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, on behalf of the Government and citizens of the State, extolled the former Military President as a national icon whose legacy of visionary leadership, institutional reforms and infrastructural development continues to shape the political and socio-economic landscape of Nigeria.
Describing General Babangida as “a trailblazer and architect of modern governance in Nigeria,” the SSG noted that his administration introduced far-reaching reforms that redefined the course of national development. These include the creation of the Federal Road Safety Corps, the establishment of the People’s Bank of Nigeria, the National Economic Reconstruction Fund (NERFUND), Mass Mobilization for Self-Reliance, Social Justice and Economic Recovery (MAMSER), as well as the Technical Committee on Privatization and Commercialization (TCPC) which laid the foundation for Nigeria’s later economic liberalization.
Alhaji Usman further highlighted the profound impact General Babangida has had on Niger State, especially in the areas of leadership grooming, education, infrastructure and community development. According to him, “General IBB has not only served Nigeria with distinction but has continued to inspire generations of leaders with his wisdom, foresight and commitment to national unity”.
“Today, as we celebrate this milestone of 84 impactful years, we recognize his sacrifices, his courage in times of challenge and his enduring legacy of service to the motherland,” the SSG said.
He concluded by praying for continued good health, long life and peace of mind for the elder statesman and urged younger Nigerians to emulate the values of patriotism, discipline and vision that General Babangida embodies.
The Government and people of Niger State remain eternally proud of his contributions and reaffirm their deep respect and admiration for one of Nigeria’s greatest leaders, Alhaji Usman noted.
