FMC Bida to be fully digitised before end of 2025 – MD

The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Bida in Niger, will fully digitised its operations before the end of this year, says its Medical Director, Dr Abubakar Usman.
Usman spoke in Bida at a stakeholders’ meeting as part of sustained strategies to bolster operations of the centre.
He said the efforts to fully go digital is to be in tune with the extant technology-driven world in all fields of human endeavour.
“Nationally, December is the deadline for all Federal Government institutions to go digital.
“So, we get no option. Right now, we are not 100 per cent because we don’t have enough facilities.
“But, we are hoping that before the end of this year, we will be there,” Usman said.
According to him, everything has been laid down for the provision of all the essential machines at the centre.
“We are not going to make the previous mistakes.
“Most standard equipment these days, you install and go into maintenance contract with your installer for a given number of years.
“So, once these things come in, you expect them to function for sometime and we are covered. We will get there.”
The managing director applauded the organisers of the event, saying it is to brainstorm on the progress made, formidable challenges and chart the way forward.
According to him, the management of the hospital is fully committed to maintaining the current encouraging tempo of development and improvements.
He expressed happiness with the conduct of the event, saying that it will give them the rare and invaluable opportunity to gauge the pulse of the hospital’s critical stakeholders and publics.
A cross section of the stakeholders who spoke at the event commended the centre for living above board in spite of some glaring challenges.
They stressed the importance of routinely holding such meetings, insisting that communication is key to the success of any organisation.
The duo of Maiyakin Nupe, Mr Aliu Maiyaki, and Mr Timothy Jiya, a former board member of the hospital, extolled the giant strides so far recorded.
However, while calling for general improvement, they vowed to continue to partner with the centre to take it to the desired global standard.
