TRADOC commits to bolstering reading culture among Army personnel

The Training and Doctrine Command’s (TRADOC), Nigerian Army, has restated its unwavering commitment to bolstering the reading culture among its personnel.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this came to the fore on Tuesday at a one-day Library Day Study Period 2025.
NAN also reports that the event had as theme: ‘Regenerating Knowledge Based Nigerian Army Personnel in a Dynamic Society for Effective Military Service’.
The epochal event, which took place at TRADOC NA Auditorium in the Military Cantonment, Minna, Niger, was declared open by
Maj.-Gen. Kevin Aligbe, Commander, TRADOC.
Aligbe said that the event came at the right time when all hands were on the deck to put forward the drive for training, research and innovation.
The commander also said that the bold move was in order to enhance the educational development of the Nigerian Army soldiers.
He said that this was line with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, adding, “the essence of the day is to sensitise the personnel.
“This is to further ensure that the learning and reading cultures are adequately revived and sustained.”
Aligbe further said that this was with the view to enabling the Nigerian Army to diligently play its supportive role with regards to training, research and personnel development.
The commander added that a library has been designed to procure a reading culture in the Nigerian Army personnel.
He added that this was to also bolster the critical thinking skills and problem solving capabilities of the personnel.
Aligbe said that the focus of the 2025 day was to revive the reading culture among the Nigerian Army personnel.
This, he said, was to further ensure the optimal utilisation of library resources in the Nigerian Army.
Aligbe said that the resource persons were carefully selected to reinvigorate the reading culture and fully transform the Nigerian Army.
According to him, the study period is to serve as one of the critical platforms to actualise the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff.
Aligbe said that the lectures would brainstorm on the contemporary challenges of the Nigerian Army and enhance its efficiency.
In a welcome address, the Director, Army, Training Support Centre, Maj.-Gen. Awal Gumel-Mahmuda, said the event would be used to brainstorm on the contemporary methods and developments in the use and application of library resources.
He said that the theme was carefully selected to guide the conduct of the all-important 2025 day.
The director lamented that the important role of library has not been fully harnessed.
He said that the event would come up with plausible strategies to address the formidable challenges and assist the Nigerian Army in the educational development of its personnel.
NAN also reports that the highlights of the ceremony was the distribution of school materials to four Primary and Secondary Schools inside the command by Aligbe.
The benefitting schools were: Command Day Secondary School, Army Day Secondary School, NOAWA School and Command Children School.
The items distributed included over 28,000 exercise books, rulers and pencils, among others(NAN)
