flag will not be flown at the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) issues warning.

 

 

Nigeria alongside Tunisia and Venezuela have been charged with non-compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code, a decision which was upheld following WADA’s executive committee and board meeting in Montreal, Canada on Friday.

 

 

The Nigerian National Anti-Doping Organizations (NADO) was alleged to have not addressed several critical requirements following an AUDIT carried out by WADA between 19-20 October 2022.

 

 

It is believed that the audit which focuses on; testing and result management related Anti-Doping Activities, collaborative approach between the audit team and the Signatory, compliance of the anti-doping program have not been well carried out by NADO.

 

 

As a result, WADA is set to enforce the following penalties on Nigeria if this decision is not challenged or upturned on or before 8 December 2023.

 

 

1.) Nigeria will not be awarded the right to host regional, continental and World Championships, andEvents organized by Major Event Organizations.

2.) The Nigeria NADO will lose its WADA Privileges.

 

 

3.) The Nigeria NADO’s Representatives will be ineligible to sit as members of the boards or committees or other bodies of any Signatory (or its members) or association of Signatories.

 

 

4.) Nigeria’s flag will not be flown at the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

 

 

5.) Nigeria’s flag will not be flown at regional, continental and World Championships, and Events, organized by Major Event Organizations.
