NLC NIGER STATE COUNCIL JOIN NATIONWIDE PEACEFUL PROTEST

The Nigerian Labour Congress NLC, Niger State Council and Trade Union Congress TUC, joined it’s counterparts across the country for the nationwide peaceful protest to express their displeasure over the hardship faced by nigerians from the removal of fuel subsidy.
The protest which begin the from Labour house IBB road terminated at the Niger State House of Assembly in Minna.
Addressing the Speaker, and other members of the house shortly after arriving at the Assembly complex, the NLC Chairman, Comrade Idrees Abdulkareem Lafene disclosed that the protest was aimed at drawing the attention of government at all levels to address the challenges confronting Nigerians such as hunger, insecurity, poverty .
Comrade Lafene reiterated that labour movement is the voice of people, hence the need for the reversal of some unpopular government policies to save the people.
Comrade Idrees frowned at the high cost of living in all spheres of human endeavour across the country, saying prices of goods and services has skyrocketed as a result of removal of fuel subsidy especially, food stuffs, fertilizer as well as farm implements, and urged government to take measures to address the issues .
In his remarks, the Speaker, Niger State House of Assembly, Barrister Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji applaud the NLC leadership for embarking on the peaceful protest and assured that their message would be deliver to the appropriate authorities.
Sarkin Daji also promised that the House of Assembly will table the NLC demands at the preliminary.
The protest witnessed large turnout of all the affiliate unions in the state.
