Distribution of palliatives not the solution.-stake holders.

As the distribution of palliatives to the 25 local government areas of Niger state enters it’s fifth day yesterday,the exercise is said not to be the solution to the economic hardship occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy.

Our correspondentĀ  went round some local government areas in zone A and report that vertually all the local government areas are yet toĀ  receive all the commodities on the fourth day of the public holiday due to logistics problems.

Speaking with the chief of staff of Bida local government area on behalf of the Chairman,Hon Bala Shaba who was away to solve logistics problems on transportation, said so far the local government have received 10 kg 368 bags and 2,000 bags of rice of 25 kg,240 bags of millet 100kg each, while beans and maize, zobo are being awaited.

The chief of staff, Ibrahim Yunusa,Said the local government have commence breaking of fast( IFTAR) in all the 14 wards” people are provided with Bean cake,Pap, dates, moimoi, pap and pure water,he said the distribution of grains is not the solution to the present economic hardship in the country.

“The distribution can not get to everybody,what Government supposed to do is to open a separate market with tones of commodities to sell at the subsidise rate to bring down the prices of food stuffs or reduce the prices of petroleum to 300 naira which isĀ  the only solution to the hardship.”

At Lemu the headquarters of Gbako local government area,CAN, IBO,Hausa and Yoruba Communities were not left out in the distribution of the grains, also 100,000 Naira was received by each ward for the breaking of fast.

In a chat with the representatives of CAN in the Local government,Rev Canon Abel Usman said they have received two bags of 25 kg of Rice and 10 bags of 10 kg rice..

The secretary of the local government,Hon Ishaku Mohamed,disclosed that in addition to the grains distributed to various wards 100,000 naira is being distributed every day to the ten wards in the local government areas and will continue till the end of Ramadan,he acknowledged to have receivedĀ  maize,Millet and Rice of various kg’s.

While in Lavun local government area,184,25 kg of rice and 10 kg of 1000 bags,millet 120 of 230 bags,100 kg 230 bags was received as of the time of filling the report.

Also in Mokwa local government area only rice,beans,and millet one truck each have so far been received by the local government and yet to begin the distribution as of the time of filling the report,Ā  the chairman of the local government Hon Jibrin Muregi confirmed the crisis between him and the councilors said the issue will soon be resolved as the meeting continue today Friday along with the distribution of grains to various wards.

Reports from Edati local government indicates that the sum of one million Naira was giving to ten wards for ten days 100,000 Naira each for breaking of fast (IFTAR) while assorted grains Rice, millet,Maize were on ground for distribution.

It was also gathered that the excersise was conducted in a peaceful environment except in Gbako local government area where youth were engage in divertion of the commodities to their personal use,however the security operatives promise to fish out the perpetrators.
